Who We Are

James Caleb Virdell is continuing the legacy of five generations of water well drillers.  The founder, James Miller Virdell, started the company in 1900.  Although most of the wells were dug in Llano county, over the years the service spread to Gillespie, Mason and other surrounding counties.  He had a strong background in hard work, integrity and a drive to be successful.  The company was taken over by his son, James Clarence Virdell, who continued the same work ethic of the successful, reputable business.  The third generation driller was James Taylor Virdell, Sr and followed by James Taylor Virdell, Jr.  While championing the same enduring principles and love for the business, each family member brought their own vision and expertise.  The fifth generation in this line, Caleb, has been drilling wells for more than 20 years learning the skill along side his father, Taylor, Jr. The company has had several names over the years but is now called Legacy V Drilling.  Caleb is excited to carry on the family tradition and legacy of five generations, one family.

 

Drilling water wells might seem like a fairly mundane activity, but it is actually one of the oldest and most interesting lines of work.  This may not resonate with everyone, but it sure does with the Virdells.  In fact, without well drillers, much of humanity would not have been able to sustain themselves due to a lack of water or lack of clean and uncontaminated water.  The technology for drilling water wells has come a long way, since the beginning of the practice, but the results are the same and of equal importance.  It is estimated that the first water wells were created in Cypress and Israel as early as 7500 BC.  

 

Drilling water wells today utilizes sophisticated pieces of heavy machinery, such as cable tool drilling machines and rotary drilling machines. Modern wells are a testament to centuries of progress.  Using advanced machinery, wells today can be drilled quickly and efficiently, reaching depths unimaginable to our ancestors.
